Types of Aid

What types of aid are available to Ed.D. students?

HGSE guarantees that all doctoral students will receive full tuition and health fee funding through the first five years of their studies.  For the 2009-2010 academic year, first-year doctoral candidates will receive a stipend of $10,325. Students must complete a financial aid application each academic year in order to receive this package.

Approximately 25% of our incoming doctoral students will be selected to receive the prestigious Harvard University Presidential Scholarship, an award offered to students throughout the University who demonstrate exceptional academic merit. HGSE Presidential Scholars receive full tuition and mandatory health fee support for five years with substantial stipend support in years one, two, and five.

What types of aid are available to Ed.M. students?

Grant aid ranges from merit awards that are determined through a variety of processes, to need-based grants that are based on financial aid application materials. Federal loans and work study are also available to most students.

As you consider your application for admission to HGSE, don't forget that early financial planning is also essential. You can review the Financial Aid website to familiarize yourself with financial aid programs at HGSE. Additionally, you can download the Prospective Student Checklist (97KB PDF) to assist in your planning.

If you hope to attend a program for the upcoming academic year, now is a great time to start exploring external scholarship sources. Many students take advantage of hundreds of external scholarships each year through their employers, civic organizations, religious affiliations or other networks. There are several free website resources such as FinAid and FastWeb that can help make your search easier. External scholarships are a great way to supplement any additional aid you might receive from HGSE.

Please be sure to consult our 2009/2010 Master's Guidebook (378KB PDF) or 2009/2010 Doctoral Guidebook (471KB PDF) for detailed information regarding our financial aid programs and financing your education here at HGSE. These guides are updated annually in early March.
