Director's Message
Welcome to HGSE’s internship program! We are excited to have
you visit our website and strongly encourage you to explore the possibility
of pursuing an internship experience while a student at Harvard. Internships
provide an opportunity for you to broaden your experience, enhance your
credentials, and expand your range of networking opportunities in the Boston/Cambridge
environment and beyond. It is an ideal way for you to link your academic
coursework with practice-based experiences.
The Field Experience Course (S-997) is open to all HGSE students. It
is a one-semester, four-credit course in which students intern for approximately
8 hours/per week at the location of their choice, attend five mandatory seminars, are supervised by an expert at the site, and have the support
of an experienced teaching fellow.
The Field Experience Program is now directly affiliated with the Career
Service Office which offers a highly experienced professional staff to support
you in locating, securing and developing a professional internship in exactly
the type of organization in which you are interested in working. We
have an expansive list of already established internship opportunities at
museums, hospitals, research facilities, public and private schools, universities,
non-profit organizations, business and public sector industries which can
be easily accessed through Hired. We also encourage
students to propose self-constructed internships.
We invite you to share your ideas, explore the multiple alternatives, and
have a conversation with us about the program. Please email FEP@gse.harvard.edu or
call 617-495-3427 with any questions.
