FEP Curriculum
The goal of the FEP program is to support student interns as they engage
in meaningful professional work while integrating the theoretical foundations
from their academic program at HGSE. The primary vehicle to accomplish
this goal is the Learning Agreement. This document, which details the
student's individualized final assignment, is constructed by the
student in collaboration with the Teaching Fellow and Field Supervisor
and is approved by the Faculty Supervisor.
In addition to reinforcing reflection on practice through the Learning Agreement, the FEP course (S-997) offers 4 accompanying seminars which focus on particular areas of career development.
- Seminar One has the goal of establishing the course's foundational core in linking theory to practice. Teaching Fellows will provide a basic conceptual orientation and stimulate the students' insights regarding the value and skills involved in becoming research based practitioners. In addition, students will have the opportunity to get to know others in the seminar group and develop ways to support each other through the semester.
- Seminar Two (which includes site supervisors) provides
a brief foundational grounding in mentoring functions, supports individual
pair work in anticipating challenges of the work ahead by focusing
on expectation setting, facilitates the development of relationships
between team members, and encourages networking among all participants.
- Seminar Three will focus on introducing students to the development of a concept map, a visual display of the conceptual framework or a picture of what they believe is going on at their site. The concept map will include the primary theories that they are using, their prior work histories, their current experiences, and what they see as the relationship between all three. This exercise will help students prepare for the completion of their final paper/project.
- Seminars Four and Five highlight the interns' FEP project
presentations and invites administrators and faculty supervisors
to participate in a discussion of linkages between theory and practice
in anticipation of the interns' final assignments.
