Pitching Their Projects...

HT123 Informal Learning for Children

Students in HT123 Informal Learning for Children (spring 2008) presented their final projects to visiting executives from Sesame Workshop, Animal Planet & Discovery Kids Media, Geovision, WGBH, and Harmonix. Over two intensive days, two panels of these media experts, along with instructor Joe Blatt and the course teaching assistants, heard the students’ pitches and gave them extensive feedback. For the students, this was an exciting payoff to their semester-long research and development work and an opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced people in children’s media production. This year’s course topics were: engaging children in protecting the environment, and helping children to become wiser consumers.

In Ilona Holland’s T506 Evaluation for Informed-Decision Making (spring 2008), students presented their final reports to executives from this year’s partner organizations: Boston Children’s Museum, Cambridge School Volunteers, and Science Club for Girls. These presentations were the culmination of an intensive semester's work interviewing staff, collaborating in groups, mining documents for information, identifying pivotal issues, creating program theory charts and logic models, designing customized evaluation plans, and more.
