Director's Message
Thank you for your interest in the Technology, Innovation, and Education
program. Whether you are pursuing a lifelong dream, or just browsing interesting
opportunities on the Net, you have reached a lively and innovative academic
program at Harvard's Graduate School of Education.
Now that you have found us, we would like to encourage you to consider
submitting an application. You can review the official procedure for applying
to HGSE on the Admissions Office website.
In this short message, we just want to introduce ourselves by highlighting
three features of the Technology, Innovation, and Education program that
make it distinctive and - we believe - an attractive option for graduate
study.
-
Our
approach puts learning and teaching at the center, with technology
as the means, not the mission. Whether it's a course on cutting-edge
technologies that bridge distance and time - like multiple-user virtual
environments - or a course on evaluating the impact of educational websites, we concentrate on the cognitive, affective, and social dimensions
of learning, not on the bit rate.
If you would like to know more about the way TIE frames the study of
learning technologies, watch
a short interview with Professor Chris Dede.
- Our curriculum invites you to study across three broad strands of
design, implementation, and research. The goal is to help you
prepare for a leadership career in teaching or school administration
or educational software design, or in any of the many other education
and technology fields in which TIE graduates are now working.
If
you would like to know more about the experience of working with and
learning from TIE students, watch
a short discussion with graduates from the TIE Class of 2005.
- Our program is nested in the broad intellectual sweep of the Harvard
Graduate School of Education, rich with courses in human development,
mind and brain research, social policy and school leadership - and with
access to the unequalled resources of Harvard University, as well as
to the stimulating environments of Cambridge and the Boston area.
Again, these are just some highlights. We hope you will be intrigued
to learn more, from the Admissions Office and from us. If you have specific
questions about TIE, please contact the TIE
Program Coordinator (tie@gse.harvard.edu).
Best of luck as you make your plans for the coming year.
