Mission Statement
East Boston High School is dedicated to the ideal that children are our most important resource. Our mission is to prepare each of our students for success in the highly competitive world of the twenty-first century. Our common goal is to nurture all students to be prepared to assume their rightful place in society and be capable of fulfilling their dreams with a deep sense of hope and meaning in their lives.

East Boston High School is a traditional urban high school (if there is such a thing), and as such it is an exciting and dynamic learning community. It is a large school, with a population of over 1400 students in grades nine through twelve. Many students come from the East Boston community, but a significant number commute to the school from all over the city. As of June 2008, the racial breakdown was as follows: 1.9% Asian, 17.3% Black, 60.6% Hispanic, 19.1% White, , 0.7% Multi-Race, Non-Hispanic, and 0.3% Native American. Special education services were provided to 17.6% of students. (From the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education)

The community of East Boston is a unique section of the city. Geographically isolated, its most well-known landmark is Logan International Airport (hence the school's mascot: the Eastie Jets). The population has shifted in recent years from largely Italian-a presence still reflected in some neighborhoods and in the school faculty, many of whom are Eastie alums-to predominantly Latino families. Latino/a students make up approximately half of the student body, and the school currently is home to a large Spanish bilingual program. The school has an Alternative Education program, the Success Academy, which serves ninth graders who are academically challenged by giving them close academic attention and unique opportunities such as field trips and team-building. Seniors at the school take part in one of several career pathway programs including Travel and Tourism, TeachBoston, and one of the largest, most highly-regarded Army JROTC programs in the state.

The school takes pride in being a safe environment, and its discipline and attendance policies are rigorous. The administration, faculty, and staff range in experience, and most are excited to bring new teachers into their classrooms and offices. Many also see themselves as learners, willing to openly discuss the theory and practice of education. But it's the students that are the heart of East Boston High. They are diverse in every possible way, a pleasure to meet and to teach, not to be underestimated, and wholly inspiring.
