Lisa Novelline, TAC, Middle School Mathematics

Facts:

NovellineLisa grew up in Massachusetts and married her high school sweetheart. They had 4 sons right away, and Lisa stayed home to raise them full-time while attending college part-time in the evening. After 13 years, she earned a BS in Psychology as well as a BS in Mathematics. During that time, she volunteered at her children's schools in varying capacities. The most rewarding of these was her four-year stint coaching Destination Imagination, a creative problem-solving, student-centered extracurricular program.

Because of her love for learning, children, developmental psychology, problem solving, and mathematics, she became dedicated to becoming an educator of mathematics. This led her to HGSE. "I am very excited about the opportunity to foster problem-solving skills among my future students to enable them not only to enhance their abilities to understand mathematics, but also to transfer these skills to systematically work toward solving whatever problems they may encounter with increased confidence and resiliency."

Inside Scoop:

"CHSA really helps 'break the ice' into the pre-practicum and practicum. I found it very rewarding. It was challenging to jump right into teaching, yet the support of the team of interns along with the mentor teacher was invaluable. It offered a chance to discuss on a daily basis everything on my mind about planning, teaching, and classroom management within a real classroom context."

"I've been very surprised at how much my opinions and those of my cohort matter! I sincerely believe that my feedback has been heard and valued."

"At HGSE, you will meet some of the most interesting, amazing, intelligent, thoughtful, and dedicated people imaginable."
