Prevention Specialist

The Prevention Specialist concentration focuses on prevention and intervention practices and human development in school and out-of-school settings. Prevention Specialist concentrators gain knowledge and skills related to:

  • Ecological models and prevention science
  • Consultation, classroom-level processes, and support services in schools
  • Prevention program design and implementation
  • Non-profit, after-school program, and community organization development
  • Prevention-based research training

Students who complete the Prevention Specialist concentration find positions as youth development advocates in social service agencies, educational administrators, analysts in research organizations, prevention specialists in schools and out-of-school programs, and teachers in charter, pilot, and public schools. 

This concentration may be used to prepare students for doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines including: applied social sciences, higher education, school leadership, and organizational behavior.
