Preventative and Developmental Counseling

The Preventative and Developmental Counseling concentration integrates prevention theory and practice within a counseling model.  Preventative and Developmental Counseling concentrators gain knowledge and skills in:

  • Preventative counseling models and techniques
  • Consultation, psycho-educational curriculum development, and support services
  • School-wide and classroom-level interventions and programs
  • Community and school partnerships
  • Individual and group counseling and facilitation

A number of Preventative and Developmental Counseling concentrators apply for the CAS in Counseling while others pursue teaching in traditional and non-traditional settings, become caseworkers in developmental programs and assume leadership roles in a variety of settings.

This concentration may be used to prepare students for doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines including: applied social sciences, higher education, school leadership, and organizational behavior.
