Welcome to Risk and Prevention
Risk and Prevention is dedicated to the practical application of contemporary research on risk, resilience, and prevention programming for children and adolescents in both school and out-of-school settings. We focus on how intervention and prevention practice, counseling, program development, consultation, leadership and research reduce the impact of risk faced by children and youth.
With a focus on risk and resiliency, we consider the multiple ecologies in which practitioners and researchers can intervene to improve the educational, social, learning, mental health and health outcomes of children and adolescents.
To prepare students to apply their learning in a variety of settings, R&P offers two programs:
Master's (Ed.M.) in Risk and Prevention
The Ed.M. includes two concentrations:
Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Counseling
The CAS is an additional post-graduate degree specifically for graduates of the R&P Master’s program. The CAS leads to two types of Massachusetts Counseling Licensure:
