Student ProfilesLindsay Page, QPAE
Lindsay is a second year doctoral student in the QPAE concentration. Prior to coming to HGSE, she taught junior high and high school overseas and then worked for several years in a research firm specializing in educational program and policy evaluation at the national level. Lindsay's research interests, academic preparedness at the secondary level and access to postsecondary education, have grown out of these experiences. Having focused on building applied quantitative skills while completing her master's degree at HGSE, Lindsay is devoting her doctoral coursework to gaining expertise in statistics and the economics of education. In preparation for graduate-level work in these fields, Lindsay's first year of doctoral coursework has included the study of multivariable calculus and linear algebra. Now, Lindsay plans to take courses in economic theory and labor economics within the Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) Department of Economics. In meeting the QPAE methodology requirement, Lindsay has already taken courses in longitudinal analysis (S-077) and causal inference (S-290) and plans to take additional courses in educational measurement (S-061) and within the FAS Department of Statistics. The remainder of Lindsay's coursework focuses substantively on issues of successful transition from secondary to postsecondary schooling. Beyond her courses, Lindsay has enjoyed serving as a teaching fellow for courses in intermediate statistics (S-030) and applied data analysis (S-052) and looks forward to doing so for courses in causal inference (S-290) and microeconomics (A-205), among others. Currently, Lindsay is also assisting Professors Richard Murnane and John Willett with their book on making causal inferences in educational research. Upon completing her doctorate, Lindsay plans to apply her substantive and methodological expertise as an empirical researcher and academic in the field of education. |
