Recruiting TipsResponses to Employer Recruiting Questions1. How do I post a job?Email your job description, complete with duties, requirements and application information to our office. Your job will be posted in Hired within five business days from receipt of your email. At that time we will set up an account for your organization with Hired so you may post jobs at your convenience plus review resumes of prospective candidates. 2. I want an HGSE intern. How do I find one?Employers may participate in our Field Experience Program, a more structured, for credit internship. Also, many of the Masters of Education programs such as Arts in Education, Education Policy and Management, Higher Education, Human Development and Psychology, International Education Policy, Language and Literacy, Learning and Teaching, Mind, Brain, and Education, Risk and Prevention, School Leadership, Special Studies Program, Teacher Education Program, and Technology, Innovation, and Education, have their own internship managers. We recommend contacting each department that interests you independently. 3. How do I go about interviewing students? Our office offers employers the opportunity to come to campus and interview students. To express your interest and arrange a date, we encourage you to file our online On Campus Recruiting Request. Direct any further questions to Loc Truong, Assistant Director, Employer Relations, by calling 617-495-3427. In the spring we also offer two Employer Expos that serve as opportunities for employers to meet with students in a more relaxed format than the structured interview. 4. If I am looking for a specific type of candidate, how do I narrow my search? In addition to posting jobs or conducting on campus interviews, employers have the option of searching resumes of HGSE students and alumni on Hired. 5. What is the profile of HGSE students?Though many of our students come from education backgrounds, their interests, experience and backgrounds are varied. We suggest viewing the Academic Programs section of the HGSE website for specifics. 6. Where are HGSE students employed? For a general overview of last year's student placement, consult our Employment Statistics. For an individual perspective, view alumni Stories of Impact. 7. What is the typical starting salary of HGSE graduates? We include salary information in our Employment Statistics. 8. What recruiting events does CSO host? Our office offers two career exps, one focused on K-12 schools and one focused on nonprofit, for profit, media, international, consulting and policy firms. We also sponsor Career Days trips to major cities such as New York City, Washington, DC and San Francisco. Employers offer to meet with groups of students on site during these trips. Please view our Summary of Events for additional information about these programs. For more information, call our office at 617.495.3427. 9. What other on campus opportunities does your CSO offer employers?Besides participating in CSO's on campus recruiting events, we encourage employers to conduct information sessions. To express interest, please file an online On Campus Recruiting Request. Employers who are also alumni may consult the Alumni Relations website for information about events and initiatives such as the Student Alumni Mentoring Initiative (SAMI). We also welcome employers to participate in panel discussions, give presentations on job search topics of interest to students, or suggest other ways of reaching out to students.
