Within this decade, U.S. schools will hire over two million new teachers to serve a growing number of students and replace a large cohort of retiring teachers. Evidence of high attrition rates among new teachers suggests that retaining a high quality teaching force will be a challenge.

The Project on the Next Generation of Teachers, directed by Susan Moore Johnson, is a multi-year research project addressing critical questions regarding the future of our nation’s teaching force. The Project examines issues related to attracting, supporting, and retaining quality teachers in U.S. public schools.
